![]() If you watch any video where someone is demonstrating a game using Chessbase (St Loius Chess videos for example) you will see the stupid variation popup ALL THE TIME. I could list a hundred obvious faults with Chessbase (not even getting into how poorly optimized and buggy it is) but the easiest example is a feature that they themselves are very proud of:Įntering moves has been made much easier. My favorite subject, bashing on the pile of trash Chessbase is. No hard feelings to anyone who shoots this idea down but reasons validating the response would be appreciated. I honestly have a lot more questions and thoughts I could add to this post but I'll keep it at this for now. What kind of support could I expect from the community in terms of testing the product, providing feedback/suggestions, financial support, or help from other developers? If so, what does ChessBase do great that you would want to keep, and what does it do poorly or not at all that you would like added/changed? Is there even a desire or demand for a replacement or competitor to ChessBase in the chess community? (I have heard both terrible and great things about ChessBase but didn't know if the community as a whole felt strongly one way or another.) So, knowing that ChessBase currently exists, I have a couple of questions: I do think that I am at least a competent developer and the idea of writing a cross-platform (potentially open-source) tool for studying chess openings, comparing different games, looking up how a player historically plays, analyzing your own games with an engine, etc. So this is my first post here and I am sort of new to the chess scene and by no means a great (or even good) player. ![]()
